Green and Reifenberg Earn CSFL Weekly Kudos

Navy quarterback D.J. Green threw and ran for two scores at Penn last Friday

Oct. 31, 2007

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Navy sprint football quarterback D.J. Green (Jr./Indianapolis, Ind.) and kicker David Reifenberg (So./Ft. Wayne, Ind.) have been selected as the CSFL Offensive and Special Teams Players of the Week, respectively, it was announced by the league office on Wednesday morning.

The Midshipmen (5-0, 3-0 CSFL) clinched at least a share of the CSFL title with their 56-7 win over Penn last Friday. Navy has now claimed 32 league crowns in its 62-year program history, the most among any team in league history.

On a rainy Friday evening at Franklin Field, Green completed 14-of-27 pass attempts for 178 yards with a pair of first-quarter scoring strikes. The Navy signal-caller also delivered for the Mids with 68 rushing yards on 13 carries with two touchdowns.

Green has completed 44-of-76 passes for 674 yards on the year with six touchdowns and only two interceptions. On the ground, he has run for 122 yards on 29 attempts with five touchdowns.

For Green, this represents the second time this year that he has been tabbed the league's offensive player of the week. He previously earned the weekly honors following a two-touchdown performance against defending league champion Cornell in the Pride Bowl on Oct. 7.

Reifenberg converted on all eight of his extra-point attempts in the win over Penn on Friday, tied for the third-most by an individual in school history. The Navy kicker has made 32 consecutive extra-point attempts and ranks second on the school's single-season extra points made list, only two shy of breaking Jaesen Van Yerger's record of 33 conversions during the 1994 season.

For Reifenberg, this marks the fourth time this season that he has been recognized as the league's kicker of the week. He previously earned the award following his performance against Frostburg State (5 XP, 2 FG), Army (3 XP, 2 FG) and Princeton (11 XP, 2 FG).

Navy will attempt to capture its 25th outright CSFL title and the N-Star for the fourth-consecutive year on Friday night when it travels up to Shea Stadium in West Point to take on Army (2-4, 1-2 CSFL). The Midshipmen own a 34-30-1 all-time advantage over the Black Knights and have won seven-consecutive contests against their service academy foe.
