Green and Hawkins Garner CSFL Weekly Honors

Quarterback D.J. Green threw for 185 yards and a touchdown last Sunday against Cornell

Oct. 9, 2007

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Navy sprint football quarterback D.J. Green (Jr./Indianapolis, Ind.) and linebacker Tyler Hawkins (So./Canyon Country, Calif.) have been recognized as the CSFL Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday.

This marks the second time this season that Navy has earned the league's weekly honors on offense and defense and the first for Green and Hawkins in their career.

Green engineered an offense that chalked up 35 points over the first-three quarters of play en route to a convincing 35-14 win over defending CSFL champion Cornell on Sunday at the Pride Bowl. Through the air, he connected on 12-of-22 passes for 185 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions. He also rushed for a touchdown on a one-yard sneak early in the third quarter.

For the year, Green is 26-of-42 passing for 410 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. His 162.71 passer rating ranks at the top among all CSFL quarterbacks this season.

On the defensive side of the ball, Hawkins spearheaded a defensive effort that held Cornell off the board during the first-45 minutes of play. The Navy linebacker totaled a career-best 17 tackles on the afternoon, 15 of which came during the first-three quarters. Eight of his 17 stops were of the solo variety, with 1.5 coming in the backfield for a loss of two yards.

Despite having missed the season opener at Frostburg State JV, Hawkins leads the team and ranks fourth in the league with 26 tackles this season.

The Midshipmen (3-0, 1-0 CSFL) return to action on Friday, Oct. 19, when they host Princeton (0-3, 0-1 CSFL) in their lone home contest of the season. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. and admission is free at Rip Miller Field.
