Navy IC Sailing Has Successful Weekend

Kevin McGill

Oct. 4, 2007

This past weekend, the Navy IC sailing team competed in four events. The TS Stern Sloop Event was hosted by the College of Charleston. Rob Ramirez, Ian Gill and Kevin McGill finished second out of nine teams. The conditions at this event were extreme with high winds, causing the race committee boat to sink.

"It was a good experience in the J22 in preparation for Sloop Nationals," said team captain Ian Gill. "We had the opportunity to compete in a variety of conditions and see some of our competition."

Navy hosted the Faye Bennet and Carl Van Duyne Trophies. These events are the single-handed national qualifiers. Royce Weber finished third at the Van Duyne, qualifying to compete in the ICSA single-handed Nationals in Seattle, Wash.

Andrew Vann and Robert Vann competed with their crews of Maggie Reynolds, Christina Chance and Trisha Kutkiewicz at the Danmark Trophy hosted by the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. The team finished eighth out of 20 teams at this event.
