On October 13, 1995 the Academy's Turf Field was dedicated to the late Rip Miller, an integral part of Naval Academy athletics for 48 years. Both lacrosse and sprint football play on Rip Miller Field.
Miller started at Navy as an assistant football coach, was the head football coach from 1931-1933 and served as an Assistant Director of Athletics from 1948 until his retirement in 1974. The field received a face lift in 1995 with a new artificial turf surface and a press box that made its debut during the 1997 season.
